After a rocky launch with middling reviews and lukewarm fan response, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl didn't exactly seem primed for a sequel, but today's announcement of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 has both confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming and renewed interest in the franchise.

The marquee announcements from the trailer are the additions of Jimmy Neutron and Squidward to the cast, the latter of which was revealed with a reference to his "looking out the window" meme.

While the trailer continues Ludosity Interactive and Fair Play Labs' penchant for referencing memes in the series, the roster additions announced in the trailer were perhaps overshadowed by other unhighlighted features.

For starters, the trailer opens with several fighters speaking, which was no guarantee after the rushed launch of the first All-Star Brawl didn't allow for the recording of voice lines, resulting in SpongeBob and Reptar silently punching each other in quiet arenas (the game eventually did patch in voice acting, but it was well after interest in All-Star Brawl had faded to the point it had zero viewers on Twitch).

Many also noted that the graphics in the trailer for All-Star Brawl 2 also look significantly better than they did in the first game. Speaking to IGN, publisher GameMill promised "more characters, more stages, and more modes, plus a new campaign, full crossplay for all platforms, voice acting for every playable character, new mini-games, improved graphics, and more."

The trailer revived hype from the original game's small-but-dedicated fanbase and may have renewed interest in those who brushed the original aside.

There is no release window set for All-Star Brawl 2 at the moment. However, with the chances of an imminent new Smash title slim and the unknown fate of Multiversus, this could be All-Star Brawl's time to cement itself as a legitimate platform fighting game franchise.
