Sarcastic Bro

Sarcastic Bro is the mascot of a Facebook comedy page of the same name, appearing in many of the page's original posts. Due to the perceived poor nature of the page's jokes, the character has been posted multiple times to /r/comedycemetery. He is also used in many This Is So Sad memes.

Origin

Sarcastic Bro's Facebook page appears to have launched on November 7th, 2016.^[1] The page's mascot is a bitmoji-like image of a well-groomed man in sunglasses and a suit (shown below). The page has gained over 3.3 million likes.

Spread

After the creation of the page, Reddit's /r/comedycemetery began taking notice of its content. On November 27th, 2016, a Redditor posted one of the page's images to the subreddit, gaining over 308 points^[2] (shown below, left). Another post from March 4th 2017 gained over 400 points^[3] (shown below, right). The character has been posted in /r/comedycemetery and similar subreddit /r/comedynecrophilia multiple times in 2017 and 2018, leading a user in an /r/OutOfTheLoop^[4] thread about the character to call him "one of the many mascots" of the subreddits.

This Is So Sad

Sarcastic Bro began seeing use in This Is So Sad shitposts on Reddit in early 2018. On February 8th, a similar post to the 5ever copypasta edited to feature the character appeared on /r/ComedyHomicide, gaining over 650 points (shown below).

In the following months, jokes using similar setups began appearing on /r/DeepFriedMemes, where they were displayed with heavy distortion and unrelated images on the text. For example, a post by BVB_301 from March 25th gained over 1,500 points (shown below, left). After spreading on /r/DeepFriedMemes, the format was picked up by /r/dankmemes, where users created variations changing the word "likes" to other things one can "hit." For example, an April 14th, 2018 post changing "likes" to "faculty and staff" gained over 6,300 points (shown below, right).
