Fotosíntesis (English: Photosynthesis) refers to a Spanish shitpost meme where actor Tom Holland says "Fotosíntesis" in a robotic voice, followed by a jet of water knocking someone over in the background as the song "Can You Feel My Heart" by Bring Me the Horizon. The meme is an edit of a behind the scenes video posted to Instagram by Holland in 2018 and went viral in 2022 as the subject of edits and redraws.

Origin

On August 14th, 2018, actor Tom Holland (@tomholland2013) uploaded a video to Instagram^[6] where he talks about how he does his own stunts on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home. After he says this, a person behind him gets swept away by a massive spash of water. Holland looks back, confused. The video received 4 million views in 3 years (shown below). On the same day, Young Celebrity World reuploaded the video on YouTube,^[2] garnering over 94,000 views and 5,600 likes in 3 years.

On March 28th, 2022 Lu1s games YT uploaded a version of the video to YouTube^[3] where Holland's voice is dubbed over to say "Fotosíntesis" in a robotic voice, followed by the song "Can You Feel My Heart" by Bring Me the Horizon^[1] playing, garnering over 3.2 million views and 141,000 likes in 3 weeks (shown below.)

Spread

The video inspired multiple variants over the following weeks, often editing or redrawing the video or using the audio clip over other video sources. On April 17th, 2022 Gar19 uploaded a version of the meme to YouTube^[4] using various audio clips over the video, gaining over 121,000 views and 2,100 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On April 21st, Bizzare Toons uploaded an animated version of the meme to YouTube,^[5] gaining over 433,000 views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right.)

On April 23rd, YouTuber^[7] Zeno Sama XD posted another redrawn animation of the meme, gaining over 163,000 views in two weeks (shown below).
