Overview

MrDeadMoth Domestic Violence Twitch Stream refers to an altercation that occurred off camera during a livestream by Australian Twitch user MrDeathMoth, in which he can be heard arguing with a woman who accuses him of striking her.

Background

On December 8th, 2018, Twitter user @RevvOCE tweeted a clip of the altercation from MrDeathMoth's stream. The tweet has since been removed. The following day, Twitter user @ayo tweeted the video in which MrDeadMoth can be heard arguing with the woman while a child can be heard crying in the background (shown below).




Developments

Online Reaction

On December 9th, 2018, YouTuber tamus uploaded a video of the incident, which garnered more than 460,000 views and 6,400 comments over the next 24 hours (shown below). The same day, Redditor TheDutchy3 submitted a post about the stream to /r/LivestreamFail,[5] where it garnered upwards of 22,800 points (89% upvoted) and 6,100 comments within 24 hours.



That day, YouTuber Keemstar tweeted that both MrDeadMoth and the woman had been "charged by police" (shown below).



News Media Coverage

In the comings days, several news sites published articles about the livestream, including Mashable,[1] The Daily Dot,[2] The Washington Post[3] and Newsweek.[4] On December 10th, the Sydney Morning Herald[6] reported that MrDeadMoth was in police custody and would appear in court on December 13th.

Temporary Unbanning

On December 30th, 2018, MrDeathMoth Tweeted[8] a link to his Twitch channel along with the message "2 hours." On January 2nd, 2019, Twitter user Rod Breslau tweeted[7] that MrDeadMoth had been unbanned on the platform (shown below). Within 48 hours, the tweet gathered upwards of 4,700 likes and 1,400 retweets.

On January 3rd, Twitch banned MrDeathMoth's account. The following day, The Daily Beast[9] published an article titled "Twitch Stands by Fortnite Star Who Allegedly Beat Pregnant Girlfriend on Video."
