About
Asoka Makeup Challenge, also known as the Asoka TikTok Trend, refers to a makeup trend popularized on TikTok in which people style themselves with Indian bridal hair, makeup and clothing inspired by the 2001 Bollywood movie Asoka. The trend started in March 2024 but grew exponentially in April 2024 on TikTok using the song "San Sanana," which appears in a scene with actress Kareena Kapoor, as most videos paid homage to her 2001 movie Asoka and the Indian Bridal Makeup Look culture.
Origin
On March 10th, 2024, TikTok[1] makeup influencer @ibrawrrrr posted a video titled "Indian Bridal Makeup Look," in which they did a makeup transition edit inspired by the 2001 Bollywood movie Asoka, using the song "San Sanana" from the film's soundtrack. The video (shown below, left) amassed more than 34 million plays and 2 million likes in two months.
A few days later, on March 24th, TikTok[2] influencer @suwarnadwipa.mua joined the Asoka trend (shown below, right) and her video became the main source of the challenge, garnering over 74 million plays, 6 million likes and 600,000 other videos under her sound in a month.

The scene that inspired the Asoka makeup trend was posted on YouTube[5] on December 31st, 2015, by the @sonymusicindiaVEVO YouTube channel (shown below), amassing roughly 35 million views and 283,000 likes in nine years.

On April 19th, 2024, TikTok[3] influencer @jharnabhagwani posted one of the most viral videos of the Asoka makeup trend (shown below, left), which received more than 237 million plays and 24 million likes in two weeks. On April 27th, TikToker[4] @camilapudim posted a Brazilian version of the Asoka makeup trend (shown below, right), which garnered roughly 218 million plays and 22 million likes in three days.
