Potato Makeup Challenge, also known as "#PotatoPortrait, refers to an online social game in which participants attempt to put makeup on a potato so that it resembles a human face.

Origin

On December 17th, 2018, TikTok [3] user @potato_makeup posted a video of makeup being applied to a potato. The post received more than 400,000 reactions in less than one month.

The following day, YouTuber king of toxic posted the video on YouTube. The post received more than 1,800 views in one months (shown below).



Spread

On December 22nd, 2018, TikTok[2] user @elona_balasyan posted a video of makeup being applied to a potato set to the song "Dancin (Krono Remix)" by Aaron Smith (shown below). Within one month, the video has received more than 950,000 likes.

That day, other users of TikTok attempted their own makeovers. For example, TikTok user @t3chnina posted a version of the meme. The post received more than 325,000 reactions (shown below).
