About

Arnold Schwarzenegger Dropkick refers to a series of viral videos of a man attacking actor, politician and bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger being at an event in South Africa. Following the attack, Schwarzenegger noted that he barely noticed it had happened.

Origin

On May 18th, 2019, at the Arnold Classic South Africa sports festival in Johannesburg, South Africa, an identified man dropkicked Arnold Schwarzenegger as he met with fans. The man was quickly subdued and screamed "help me, I need a Lamborghini" as security removed him from the event.

That day, YouTuber World's Strongest Fan published an isolated clip of the attack, which was taken from the event's live stream. The post received more than 9.1 million views in two days (shown below).

Spread

That day, Schwarzenegger tweeted, [1] "Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat." The tweet received more than 38,000 retweets and 234,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Additionally, Schwarzenegger shared an alternate angle of the attack. He wrote, "And if you have to share the video (I get it), pick a blurry one without whatever he was yelling so he doesn’t get the spotlight. By the way… block or charge?" Within two days, the tweet received more than 13,000 retweets, 50,000 likes and 2 million views (shown below).

The following day, Schwarzenegger announced that he would not be pressing charges against the attack.[2]

Numerous media outlets covered the attack, including BBC,[2] Deadspin,[3] CNN,[4] Fox News,[5] The Hill,[6] The Guardian,[7] USA Today[8] and more.

On May 19th, Redditor [9] VFDGamer posted a tweet by @TiptGerade comparing the attack to a moment from the American animated series SpongeBob SquarePants (shown below). The post received more than 5,200 points (98% upvoted) in 24 hours.

Arnold really knows what's important. He's discouraged people from mentioning the attacker's name and made jokes about the situation. He got egged a couple of years ago and laughed it off, saying "He owes me some bacon."
