3D Text Reaction Images

About

3D Text Reaction Images refer to a series of metallic 3D text graphics written in all caps. The image macros are made using the program Blender and the phrases and words that are written are predominantly controversial in nature. The trend started in late 2022 when GIFs of the original 'CP' 3D Text first surfaced on Twitter. Other iterations started to surface going into early 2023, such as the "Gay Sex" 3D text, the "Say Gex" 3D text and the "A Hit Tweet" 3D text, among others. They are typically used as reaction images and exploitables. Overall, the dramatic nature of the text's presentation was contrasted by the unseriousness of the phrase shown.

Origin

3D Text Reaction Images started with a metallic 3D text graphic reading "child p***" in all caps, dubbed the 'CP' 3D Text (censored version shown below). Starting in 2008, the image was used to illustrate various news reports.^[1][2][3] Also, it was alleged by Twitter^[4] user @brkpoison in October 2022 that the graphic was "a stock photo created sometime in 2008 – 2007."

On October 8th, 2022, Twitter^[5] user @Darkloafballshd created a thread of "Gifs that are difficult to search for," posting multiple popular GIFs that @Darkloafballshd themselves and other users edited in the stock image. The thread gained over 2,400 likes in five months, with a total of 30 GIFs posted by @Darkloafballshd in that period.

On October 18th, 2022, Twitter^[6] user @GlitchyPSI tweeted a new 3D metallic text graphic, showing the words "gay sex" written in all caps. Over the course of five months, the tweet received roughly 17,100 likes (shown below). It is currently the first known variant of the 3D Text Reaction Images trend.

Soon after @GlitchyPSI's tweet,^[6] they posted a Twitter^[7] reply on October 18th, 2022, that included a new 3D text graphic reading, "a hit tweet" (shown below, left). The reply received over 310 likes in five months. About a month later, on November 10th, 2022, Twitter^[8] user @GlitchyPSI quote retweeted their original tweet^[6] with a self-proclaimed "sequel" that read "say gex" in 3D text (shown below, right). Over the course of four months, the QT gained over 80 likes (shown below, right).

Going into early 2023, specifically March 2023, various iterations surfaced on both Twitter and iFunny, among other platforms. For instance, on March 7th, 2023, Twitter^[9] user @HaleyJean_Tho tweeted an iteration reading "robot boobs," vaguely in reference to Robot Fetishism (shown below, left). The tweet received roughly 1,300 likes in 13 days. On March 19th, 2023, iFunnyer^[10] @dix_masher posted a version reading "nuh uh" which gained roughly 2,100 smiles in one day (shown below, right).

Around the same time, the images were integrated into video content on platforms like Twitter and TikTok. For instance, on March 7th, 2023, TikToker^[11] @brown.d_jackson posted a stylized edit of the "Gay Sex" 3D text with text overlay reading, "My friend: "Yoo what are we going to do after school" / Me(asf):" Over the course of 13 days, the video received roughly 88,400 plays and 14,800 likes (shown below).

On March 12th, 2023, Twitter^[12] user @trndytrndy tweeted an animation of the "gay sex" 3D text, gaining roughly 22,500 views and 2,700 likes in eight days (shown below).
