Why Do Many Fans Despise The New 'Megamind' Sequel? The 'Megamind VS The Doom Syndicate' Backlash Explained

The 2010 movie Megamind has left behind a long legacy of memes and viral appreciation. Though the film didn't break the box office 14 years ago, its popularity has increased drastically since its release, and it's often considered a cult classic.

Fans of Megamind take the film very seriously, and for years, rumors of a sequel have excited them. Now, that sequel has been confirmed, and thousands of people are voicing their intense disapproval of what little they've seen so far.

Here's everything you should know about the new Megamind movie, its trailer and why it's sparked a controversy online recently.

What Is Megamind And Why Do People Care So Much About It?

Megamind is a movie that gets better with age. It follows the titular character on his journey to become the greatest supervillain in Metro City, which ultimately leaves him unsatisfied and leads to him becoming a "good guy" instead.

The movie stars Will Ferrell as Megamind, Tina Fey as his unrequited love interest, Jonah Hill as up-and-coming villain Tighten, David Cross as a sentient fish named Minion, and many more. Its animation and story have been a point of pride for well over a decade of viral fame, leading to memes like No B*tches? and "You're a villain alright, just not a super one."

What Are People Saying About Megamind 2?

In general, people feel dissatisfied with the animation quality, which some say looks similar to popular Gen Alpha animations like Cocomelon rather than adhering to the quality of the previous movie.

The original voice actors are also nowhere to be seen (or heard). The upcoming film seems to have a very different feel to it than the original, and seems to be targeting a younger audience than the actual Megamind fandom.
