We Was Robbed! is an exploitable remix meme which uses a scene from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to place different characters and objects on the Banks' living room rug.

Origin

The scene first appeared on the episode "Robbing the Banks", which aired on January 18, 1993.^[1] Will and the Banks family arrive home to find that most of their items and furniture had been stolen from the living room, with the exception of the rug, by a friend of Will. The scene was uploaded to YouTube by ambalabibo on Jan 16, 2009, and has over 2.8 million views (shown below).

Spread

On March 17th, 2017, YouTuber Meme Squad uploaded a YouTube Poop of the scene, gaining over 146,000 views (shown below, left). The first known instance of using the scene as an exploitable meme was on March 6th, 2019, when Samuel DeCoske uploaded a short YouTube Poop that ended with a small dancing Santa Claus suddenly appearing onto the rug. The video has nearly 4,000 views (shown below).

Over the following two years, dozens of examples were posted to YouTube. For example, on September 7th, 2020, YouTuber Crash Schwarzenegger uploaded a version featuring Turk from Scrubs dancing, gaining over 3,000 views (shown below, left). On August 30th YouTuber Parsti uploaded an example that gained over 4,400 views (shown below, right).

Astolfo Dance

A popular version of this meme involves the Fate character Astolfo dancing to various tunes. This version, originated on YouTube by Liquid (shown below, left), has been reposted and copied several times with different music (shown below, right).
