About

Days Gone is an adventure survival-horror game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Upon its release, the game received middling reviews, and its dialogue was mocked on Twitter.

History

Days Gone was developed by SIE Bend Studio and directed by John Garvin and Jeff Ross. It centers around Deacon St. John, a biker and drifter in a post-apocalyptic landscape taking on "freakers," zombie-like creatures created by a global pandemic. Development began in January of 2015[1] and had presentations at E3 in 2016 and 2017 (shown below). Initially scheduled for a February 22nd, 2019 release date, the game was pushed to an April 26th release date for additional polish.

Reception

The game received an opening aggregate score of 72/100 on Metacritic, a "mixed or average" rating.[2] Positive reviews tended to focus on the game's content and graphics, though several conceded the game did not bring much in the way of original ideas. Critics were divided on the story, with some considering it dense and meandering and others intricate and well-told. More critical reviews knocked the game's repetitive missions and length, which they felt was too long. Both positive and negative reviews noted the game had technical problems.

Online Presence

As of April 26th, 2019, the game has over 14,000 likes on Facebook[3] and a Reddit[4] with 8,800 subscribers.

Wedding Scene

One of the scenes in the game began going viral the day prior to the game's release. In the scene, the character Sarah is giving her wedding vows to Deacon and says "only if you promise to ride me as much as you ride your bike." The scene was tweeted by @MTLSaiyan and gained over 1,200 retweets and 4,400 likes (shown below).

The scene became a subject of mockery on Twitter. User @papaishu[5] tweeted "im fuckin losing my mind over here" (shown below, left). Twitter user @mechapoetic[6] joked it was the best line of dialogue ever (shown below, right). US Gamer attempted to put the line in context,[7] noting that the line is delivered somewhat in jest, as in the story, Sarah had previously made Deacon promise that "we don't have one of those biker weddings where you say that you're going to ride me as much as your bike."
