temp6t is an American YouTuber best known for videos in which he uses creative strategies to win on the online Pokémon battle simulation platform Pokémon Showdown, often to incredulous and humorous reactions from his opponents. Though active for less than two years as of December 12th, 2022, his channel grew popular very quickly, amassing over 760,000 followers in 22 months.

History

tempt6t launched his YouTube channel on August 30th, 2015.^[1] The earliest extant video on the channel is dated February 12th, 2021, and features him beating teams of all Sylveon and all Arceus with a single Wooper (shown below, left). His next video, posted February 16th, is his earliest to crack 1 million views. It shows him beating a team of Legendary Pokémon with unevolved Pokémon, gaining over 1.3 million views (shown below, right).

Over the following two years, he solidified a style for his videos that proved popular. Nearly all of his videos showcase him fighting a player who relies almost entirely on Legendary Pokémon like Arceus and Zacian (aka "Legendary Spammers"), while he uses seemingly weaker Pokémon. This makes the opponent cocky, and temp6t shows their in-game chat using text-to-speech technology. Ultimately, through the use of items, status effects and stat boosts, temp6t is able to win, much to the opponent's chagrin. Many of his videos highlight the salt and toxicity of the opposing player, who can't believe they lost to the strategy.

As of December 12th, 2022, the channel's most viewed videos are one posted June 30th, 2021, which gained over 8.1 million views in roughly a year and a half (shown below, left), and another posted June 7th, 2021, that gained over 8 million views in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Online Presence

tempt6t has proven a somewhat divisive figure in the competitive Pokémon community. Some have expressed distaste for his content, arguing that he intentionally "sandbags" (keeps himself in lower tiers of competitive Pokémon) in order to create his content.^[4] He is often the subject of memes in communities like /r/stunfisk, which in general don't seem to have a positive impression of his strategies (example^[5] shown below).
