Broxh (stylized as broxh_) is the nickname of popular woodcarver streamer from New Zealand who became viral online in April and May 2020. With over one million followers, Broxh is the most popular Twitch streamer in the Makers & Crafting category. In addition to woodcarving, Broxh has also streamed World of Warcraft and Fortnite.

Online History

Broxh held his first Twitch[1] broadcast on October 29th, 2015,[2][3] occasionally streaming woodcarving until April 2020, usually several hours every few months. During an April 20th, 2020, broadcast, an unknown person gifted broxh_ subscribers, with broxh_ reacting by offering to refund the person and asking his viewers not to spend money on him. The clip went viral on Twitch, where it was viewed over 100,000 times in two days.[4] An April 24th, YouTube reupload by ItsTwitch channel accumulated over 4.5 million views in four months (shown below).

Following the viral spread of the video, Broxh rapidly acquired new followers, with his follower count rising from 64 followers on April 14th to over 22,700 followers on April 22nd to over 71,600 followers on May 2nd, 2020.[3] The viral video was reported on by a number of websites, including articles by Dexerto[4] and The Daily Dot.[5]

On April 25th, World of Warcraft streamer PandaTV[7] revealed that he has tricked Broxh into giving him his address so he could gift him a gaming computer. The tweet received over 180,000 views, 430 retweets and 4,400 likes.

In early May 2020, Broxh_ disabled the donation button on his channel.[6] The channel's explosive growth continued into May and the summer months of 2020, with Twitch channel reaching over 680,000 followers as of June 1st and over 900,000 followers as of July 1st. On July 23rd, Broxh's channel reached one million subscribers (clip shown below).[7]



Reputation

Broxh has a reputation of a wholesome person due to his kind behavior and his unwillingness to accept donations. Online and in media, he has often been compared to the late American painter Bob Ross] Broxh calls his followers "whanau," which is the Maori word for extended family.

Broxh[8] has been described as an example of great streamer ethic and humility. For example, on June 19th, YouTuber Sweenytv posted[8] a video comparing a clip of Broxh resisting gifted subscriptions against the clip of streamer BadBunny demanding subscriptions from her viewers. The video received over 2 million views in two months (shown below).



Personal Life

Broxh's real name is unknown. He resides in New Zealand and is an avid fan of World of Warcraft. Broxh has been woodcarving since school, later making woodcarving his profession.[9] Broxh is married and has a daughter.[10] As of August 6th, 2020, Broxh was 28 years old.[11]
