About

Haus Of Decline is a creative partnership known mostly for its webcomics that were popularized on Twitter in 2022. The comics often feature scatological and sexual humor, with many panels featuring crudely drawn penises employed in creative and humorous ways.

History

Haus of Decline was started by two people known as "Alex and Stephen."^[1] In April 2020, the pair launched a Twitter account and a podcast in which they offer humorous takes on current events.^[2] The Twitter account occasionally featured humorous artworks, such as a comic about Dune posted on September 17th, 2021, which received over 6,800 likes and 900 retweets in nine months (shown below).

Haus of Decline posted the first of what would be known as their webcomic^[3] series on November 30th, 2021 (shown below).

Over the following months, they continued posting comics with little engagement on social media. One of the first comics to see significant spread was posted on February 17th, 2022,^[4] gaining over 400 retweets and 1,200 likes in four months (shown below, left). On March 3rd, they posted their first comic to gain over 1,000 retweets, showing men putting their penises in the shape of a cross in order to ward off a vampire.

Starting in spring 2022, the comic's panels began regularly receiving thousands of retweets and likes. Some notable comics from mid-2022 include a June 27th comic,^[5] which received over 6,700 retweets and 62,000 likes in three days, about encountering a trans person after having forgotten their name (shown below, left). Another comic posted that day^[6] gained over 1,300 retweets and 10,000 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Online Presence

As of June 30th, 2022, the Haus of Decline has over 76,000 followers on Twitter.^[1] The comics are also posted on Instagram^[7] to an account with over 2,300 followers.
