About

Geoff's Laugh, also known as "Geoff's laugh cures cancer", is a meme originating from "Rooster Teeth", and their sister network "Achievement Hunter"'s weekly web series, "Fails of the Weak". The laugh referred to is that of Geoff Ramsey, the co-founder of Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter and co-host of "Fails".

Origin

Fails of the Weak was originally started in September 2010, under the video "Halo: Reach – Six Fails"(later renamed "Fails of the Weak #0 – The Inception") The series was created to showcase fan submitted clips of themselves failing playing the then-recently released video game "Halo: Reach", the final entry to the Halo series produced by Bungie. Soon after its release the series grew immensely popular, with thousands of user-submitted clips being submitted daily. Commentary is provided by Geoff Ramsey and Jack Pattillo, the former becoming extremely popular for his laugh, often adding a second layer of humor to the videos.

Spread

Geoff's laugh quickly gained popularity with the Youtube community, attaining memetic status within the comments. Users would often reference it by hailing as some kind of miracle cure. Example phrases include:

"Geoff's laugh cures cancer."
"Geoff's laugh cures world hunger."
"Every time Geoff laughs, a baby is born."
"Geoff's laugh is made of vodka."etc.

Montage videos of his laugh were eventually made, one being featured on Rooster Teeth:

which, in turn, created a ringtone:

Geoff has occasionally alluded to the fan response to his laugh, through various jokes such as warming-up through a "pre-laugh", or apologizing for not laughing as much in the current episode because he was drinking(only to burst out laughing upon seeing the next clip). Other Rooster Teeth employees have also mentioned it, Burnie Burns being the one to post the "3 minutes" clip, commenting that "the only thing I don't like about this video is that I didn't think of it first." Geoff's laugh has also been mentioned on 08/26/11's "The RT Recap".

A Facebook page dedicated to Geoff's laugh has been made as well.
