What are your thoughts about The Hub becoming Discovery Family? Sorry I'm late to this. It's just I see that Network Decay is just so out of control nowadays poor Boomerang I think The Hub was broken the moment Hasbro decided to run the network into the ground so badly that Discovery woke up and regained the controls realizing they only had rations from their other stations I'm probably in the minority for even saying that, but The Hub was ALWAYS supposed to be this hybrid network with kid-friendly cartoons and such courtesy of Hasbro and family-friendly fare from Discovery Communications. One particular show became the lone breakout hit, and nobody looked at the rest of the channel. Hasbro purged the educational fare on weekday mornings as well as stuff like Meerkat Manor, Endurance, and other former Discovery Kids fare that moved over to The Hub at launch. The lineup ended up being mostly pony reruns mixed with repeats of other shows, scaled-back action programming, and B-movies and early 90s sitcoms in primetime Nobody really watched The Hub beyond My Little Pony, because if they did, they would have seen the channel was utterly unwatchable The thing about running a network is that you actually have to run a network, not just fill it up with shows you make and picking up things you hope people would watch. The Hasbro side of The Hub has never run a network, and it showed. By completely denying ad space to rival toymakers, barely advertising for their own products out of fear of being called a 24-hour Hasbro commercial, and not fully utilizing their resources, Hasbro's rule of the network cause conflict with the Discovery side of the network, including pushing iconic network head Margaret Loesch out. She was the only one keeping some kind of balance at the network and Hasbro just pushed her out. That, and the fact that Hasbro presented absolutely nothing new for the 2014-15 season beyond the now Cartoon Network-bound Robots in Disguise, is why Discovery decided to reclaim control of the channel. Unfortunately, they have to run a skeleton lineup longer than they anticipated due to the abrupt change from Hub Network to Discovery Family Realistically, they should have relaunched the network in spring 2015 rather than four weeks after announcing a shift in management of the station. It would have given them more time to produce new programming, acquire third-party series, and create a strong lineup Discovery Family is a work-in-progress. They're cleaning up the mess that was The Hub and transforming it into the network it was supposed to be from the very beginning. I wouldn't necessarily call it Network Decay. But they really do need to cut back on pony reruns. Six times a day is overkill for a show with very few episodes
