Most of the humor of old Family Guy seemed to transfer over to American Dad. I'd say Family Guy started to get "ehhh…" inducing around the season where Brian was made into a stereotypical pretentious atheist (meaning I think maybe the first two or so "post revival" seasons were still good). American Dad, IMO, hasn't suffered from any major downgrade in quality.
On the movie side of things, though, things with McFarlane are hit and miss. I actually really like Ted and the sequel looks like it might be a fun time too, but 1000 Ways to Die in the West wasn't very good. I think Brad Jones (Cinema Snob) said it best: Ted is like watching old Family Guy, 1000 Ways to Die in the West is like most of new Family Guy (I say "most" because every now and then they make an alright episode).
