Well that was in the 1940s, when most countries were heavily propagandised due to the largest war in history happening. I don't believe Disney was heavily involved in politics in the later 20th/early 21st century, which is what most people would remember.
The only thing that has changed is that their political agenda today is devoid of any creativity. Back then, media based on politics created Captain America, one of the strongest long-standing comic and highly successful media still alive today. Today, media based on politics tried to create New Warriors before it never even came out.
Politics were never the problem; the problem started when said politics were detached from the creative process and instead got used just for surface-level pandering instead of creative writing.
