If you put the enemy soldiers back against the wall they will do things like continuing to kill your soldiers when they can't win, just to avoid becoming your prisoners
You want your enemy to surrender or turn on their own chain of command, not get pushed into a desperate fight for survival

It's probably fake considering the Ukrainian Government has been asking the Mother's of captured Russian soldiers to come pick up their kids.
