"We've Been Tricked, We've Been Backstabbed and We've Been Quite Possibly, Bamboozled" refers to a memorable quote said by the character Super Colonel Sarge of Red vs. Blue Halo machinima series. Online, a still image from the episode paired with the quote has been used as a macro, usually about situations in which someone is being deceived.

Origin

On March 29, 2015, episode 12th "The Reunion" of season 12 of Red vs. Blue Halo machinima series premiered on YouTube[1].In one scene of the episode, a Red Team leader Super Colonel Sarge says that he and his soldiers were "tricked and backstabbed." The episode gained over 980,000 views in four years.

The original video has since been deleted but was reposted by YouTube[9] user @novaleader7305 reposted the clip (shown below) on November 7th, 2019, which amassed over 641,000 views and 36,000 likes in five years.

On February 4th, 2019, Redditor chromosome-homie posted the first known meme based on the scene to /r/dankmemes subreddit,[2] where it received over 5,100 upvotes in four months. A repost of the meme to /r/halomemes gained an additional 180 upvotes in the same period.[3]

The format saw limited use in the following months, with notable posts made in /r/HaloMemes,[4] /r/Halo[5] and /r/deadbydaylight[6] subreddits. On May 5th, 2019, Redditor CoolestNero posted a meme based on the format to /r/MemeEconomy subreddit,[7] with the post receiving over 750 upvotes in one month (shown below).

In the following weeks, the format gained moderate spread on Reddit, with multiple variations of the meme posted in /r/memes, /r/dankmemes and other subreddits. For example, a meme posted by Redditor EmoMinecrafter on May 13th, 2019, gained over 23,900 upvotes in one month.[8]
