About

"Up Yours, Woke Moralists! We'll See Who Cancels Who" is a quote said by Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson in his video response to his temporary suspension from Twitter over a tweet in which he deadnamed transgender actor Elliot Page. In early July 2022, the viral video of Peterson saying the quote became an exploitable and inspired caption memes and edits.

Origin

On July 1st, 2022, Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson posted a 15-minute long YouTube[1] video titled, "Twitter Ban," which addressed his temporary suspension from Twitter over a tweet in which he deadnamed transgender actor Elliot Page. In one part of the video, Jordan challenges "woke moralists," delivering the line in an emotionless manner (14:17 mark, shown below).

And I'm not taking down that tweet or acknowledging that my tweet violated the Twitter rules. Up yours, woke moralists! We'll see who cancels who. Twitter's a rat hole in the final analysis and have probably contributed to that while trying to use, understand and master that horrible toxic platform.

Spread

On July 5th, 2022, Twitter[2] user @BradenIsBased posted a clip from the video in which Peterson says, "Up yours, woke moralists! We'll see who cancels who," commenting, "I can't breathe, this is the funniest thing I've ever heard." The video gained over 4.8 million views, 10,900 retweets and 124,000 likes in one day (shown below).

On the following day, the video was quote tweeted by multiple users on Twitter who humorously captioned it. For example, on July 6th, 2022, Twitter[3] user @TheDouggernaut quote tweeted the post, writing, "Batman villians when you die in an Arkham game," with the tweet gaining over 5,900 retweets and 58,100 likes in one day (shown below).

Other users used the video as an exploitable template, editing it to reference various media. For example, Twitter[4] user @LemmaEOF posted a Red Alert edit of the video on July 6th that gained over 700 views in one day (shown below).
