On October 15th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @wokal_distance posted an image showing two kids watching TV, while nostalgic 90s things including Tamagotchis, Pokemon cards, a PlayStation and a Gameboy wit in the foreground, writing, "This is a world worth fighting for, and the ache of the nostalgia we feel for this time is the call home." The post garnered over 2,600 likes and 1,700 quote retweets in two days (shown below).

On October 16th, 2022, Twitter[2] user @blandCinema posted a screenshot of the tweet, along with others from @wokal_distance criticizing the modern way of living, writing, "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in nostalgia for 90’s corporate advertising and carrying red plastic Pizza Hut cups," garnering over 14,000 likes and 1,400 retweets in a day (shown below). People also began quote-retweeting and sharing the post, many criticizing the user for idolizing the past and making fun of the image itself. For example, Twitter[3] user @disco_socialist shared it, writing, "'nostalgia' is just the fear of our inevitable death."
