El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie is a 2019 film for Netflix that will serve as a sequel to the events of the American television series Breaking Bad. Written and directed by Vince Gilligan, the film stars Aaron Paul who reprises the role of Jesse Pinkman.

History

In November 2018, the Albuquerque Journal^[1] reported that the New Mexico Film Office had confirmed that a Breaking Bad film, then going under the title "Greenbrier" was in production.

The following year, on August 20th, Bob Odenkirk, who plays the character Saul Goodman star of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, told The Hollywood Reporter^[2] that production had completed on the film (video below, left). He said, "I don't know what people know and don't know. I find it hard to believe you don't know it was shot. They did it. You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is. They've done an amazing job of keeping it a secret."

Several days later, Netflix premiered a trailer for the film on YouTube. Within two days, the trailer received more than 5.4 million views (video below, right).

That day, the New York Times^[5] published an interview with the film's star Aaron Paul. He said, "It’s a chapter of Breaking Bad that I didn’t realize that I wanted. And now that I have it, I’m so happy that it’s there."

Paul continued that, after reading the script, he "couldn’t speak for a good 30, 60 seconds."

"I was just lost in my thoughts. As the guy who played the guy, I was so happy that Vince wanted to take me on this journey."

Trailer Reaction

On August 26th, the Redditors tea6man9 and bassrusher posted the trailer to the /r/movies^[3] and /r/video^[4] subreddits, where they received more than 53,000 (91% upvoted) and 20,000 points (90% upvoted), respectively.

That day, YouTuber Jeremy Jahns published a reaction video to the trailer. The post received more than 294,000 views in two days (shown below).
