The Staring Freddy Fazbear Drawing refers to a cursed, creepy and distressing drawing or sketch of a human-like Freddy Fazbear staring with a long face. The face also resembles Markiplier or Jerma. Others see a staring woman when the image is cropped, cutting out the figure's ears and midsection. The drawing was originally made by TikTok artist @widesquaretables in late 2023. It spread as a reaction image and image caption meme going into 2024. A notable meme with the image read, "when i sneeze next to an opp and they say curse you," posted to Twitter / X. Also, the image became a TikTok meme akin to the Duke Dennis 'Hard' trend in which it slowly faded in, set to the song "We Don't Luv Em" ("The money go where I go. Smokin' on gelato").

Origin

On November 3rd, 2023, TikToker^[1] @widesquaretables posted a photo slideshow that showcased a creepy drawing she made of Freddy Fazbear (shown below, right). The slideshow received roughly 3.3 million plays and 772,800 likes in three months.

Spread

The image's first known repost was shared by Redditor Few_Ad6561 to the /r/BatmanArkham^[2] subreddit on November 4th, 2023, gaining over 240 upvotes in three months (shown below, left).

On November 17th, 2023, Redditor Big_Weight3846 also posted the image again to /r/BatmanArkham,^[3] earning over 1,300 upvotes in three months (shown below, right).

The first known viral usage of the drawing was a Reel shared by Instagram^[4] user @t._.b._.guts._.b on January 2nd, 2024, that had a bottom caption reading, "Me looking at the ps4 error code read 'Nigga are you serious' after typing gta 6 into the search bar." Over one month, the video received roughly 319,500 likes (shown below).

Screenshots of the aforementioned Reel were posted on Instagram^[5] and X^[6] in early January 2024. For instance, on January 8th, 2024, X^[6] user @xerorgg posted the screenshot, giving it a slightly blue filter, receiving over 1,600 likes in one month (shown below, left).

Then, on January 20th, 2024, X^[7] user @xerorgg posted a cropped version of the slightly blue-tinted image, captioning it, "when i sneeze next to an opp and they say curse you," earning over 83,000 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

Usage of the image caption format spread elsewhere, evident in a photo slideshow posted by TikToker^[8] @caneverbedrippy2x on January 16th, 2024, that included the same image multiple times, reading, "'I don't need to study' mfs looking at question 1" (shown below, left). The slideshow gained over 3.7 million plays and 669,400 likes in 17 days.

On January 18th, 2024, TikToker^[9] @mavedideannattene posted a similar slideshow with an Italian caption reading, "il bro che diceva di avere tutte le risposte quando legge la prima domanda del compito" (shown below, right). The slideshow received over 46,800 plays and 6,000 likes in 15 days.

On January 31st, 2024, TikToker^[10] @squidsgeoguessr posted a video with the drawing, using a TikTok sound that was a remix of the song "We Don't Luv Em" ("The money go where I go. Smokin' on gelato"). The video received roughly 1.3 million plays and 303,900 likes in two days (shown below, left).

Also on January 31st, 2024, TikToker^[11] @claustrophobicguy posted a similar meme, using the same sound and the photo of the drawing. The TikTok gained over 723,700 plays and 170,400 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Going into February 2024, various TikToks that used the drawing surfaced under the "We Don't Luv Em" TikTok sound.^[12]
