About
Pokémon Home is an application developed by the Pokémon company which can store Pokémon from the discontinued Pokémon Bank, Pokémon Let's Go games, and Pokémon Sword and Shield. This allows long-time Pokémon fans to save their favorite Pokémon from various games in one place and allows for the transfer of some Pokémon which did not make the cut of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Galar Pokédex into the game.
History
On May 29th, 2019, the Pokémon Company announced the development of Pokémon Home, an app for smartphones and the Nintendo Switch which will allow for the transfer of Pokémon from the discontinued Pokémon Bank, Pokémon Let's Go!, and Pokémon Sword and Shield. Connectivity to Pokémon GO is planned for the future.
Initially, it was unclear how the news would impact the roster of Pokémon Sword and Shield, which had cut several Pokémon that were available in previous games. Because of its connectivity to the Pokémon Bank, Pokémon from Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire would be eligible to appear in Pokémon Home, meaning all Pokémon that had ever appeared in the series were eligible. Upon the February 12th, 2020 release of the app, many Pokémon that did not appear in Pokémon Sword and Shield were now eligible to appear in those games, including old starters, legendaries, and Alolan variations. However, only Pokémon which appear in the Galar Pokédex can be in the Sword and Shield.[1][2]

Grand Oak
Upon release, fans gravitated towards the site's Professor Grand Oak, a character with unique glasses (shown below).
Fans joked about the character's design. For example, Twitter user @EvewynnsWorkshop[3] compared the character to Doc Brown from Back to the Future (shown below, left). User @lucaiverse[4] posted a How Do You Do Fellow Kids meme with the character, gaining over 280 likes (shown below, right). Jokes about the character and other aspects of Pokémon Home were covered by the Daily Dot.[5]
