Humble Bundle is an online storefront that sell digitial content through a pay-what-you-want business model. The company splits the process from their products, which include loot crates, a monthly subscription service and a digital store, with developers and charities.

Online History

Humble Bundle launched in 2010 when Jeff Rosen, pulling inspiration from Steam sales and the World of Goo pay-what-you-want sale, contacted independent developers to bundle products together and release them in a pay-what-you-want business model. In addition to selling the games, Rosen also wanted to donate some of the proceeds from the sales to charity.[1] The first Bundle (then-called "Humble Indie Bundle") was shipped in May 4th, 2010[5] and as of February 2018, the company has sold more than 47 million bundles.

In October 2015, Humble Bundle launched their subscription service "Humble Monthly," which allows subscribers access to monthly bundles at a discounted rate.

In February 2017, they launched their own in-house publishing company, which gave access to developers to publish across multiple platforms.

On October 13th, 2017, Humble Bundle was acquired the gaming media outlet IGN for an undisclosed amount. IGN executive VP Mitch Galbraith said, "If it's not broken, don't fix it. The idea is just to feed them with the resources they need to keep doing what they're doing."[3]

Humble Bundle offers three main products: Humble Bundles, Humble Monthly and Humble Store. The Humble Bundle is their flagship product, compiling a variety of products into a limited-edition loot crates. Humble Monthly is a subscription service that send monthly bundles to subscribers at a discounted rate. Finally, the Humble Store is an area where users can purchase products a la carte. Products can be played on consoles or Steam.[2]

Additioanlly, Humble Bundle offers independent development for video games as well as a chance for people to partner and invest in various projects.

On September 15th, 2017, Humble Bundle announced on YouTube [4] that the company had donated more than $100 million to chairy. co-found John Graham said, "After the first Humble Indie Bundle, we were overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. We remember delivering the first check to charity by hand and it was a larger amount of money than anything we had ever seen before. This milestone is more than 500 times bigger than that and is almost too big for me to really comprehend. We’re forever grateful to the Humble community and this huge positive impact they have made on the world."
