Saiba Momoi Says The N-Word refers to a viral Blue Archive fan animation in which the character Saiba Momoi is making a high-pitched squeak, but as the audio is slowed down, it appears as though she is saying the N-Word. The video became popular as a reaction video and inspired fan art joking that the character is racist.
Origin
On April 24th, 2024, Facebook[1] user Jay Kredd uploaded a clip of streamer IShowSpeed on a Discord server watching a fan animation of the character Saiba Momoi from Blue Archive making a high-pitched squeaking noise, though as the audio is progressively slowed down, it sounds as though she is saying the N-word, causing IShowSpeed to act shocked. The video received over 92,000 reactions and 11,800 shares in one month (shown below).
It's possible the character is saying a word in Japanese that sounds phonetically similar to the N-word, but that is unconfirmed.
Spread
The video became a meme in which users edited Momoi into saying other slurs. For example, on April 29th, 2024, Facebook[2] user Ferdi Nanda Pratama uploaded an edit showing Momoi saying a slur for Indonesian Javanese. The video received more than 18,000 reactions and 3,700 shares in one month (shown below, left). On May 20th, 2024, Facebook[3] user Sip Biru uploaded an edit of Momoi saying the names of various Indonesian tribes that can also be used as slurs to the "Blue Archive Indonesia Community" group. The post received more than 1,600 reactions and 2,400 shares in three weeks (shown below, right).
On May 13th, 2024, Facebook[4] page DS CryoShinzo X Gaming uploaded an edit of Momoi visiting various images that feature the word "negros." The video received more than 26,900 reactions and 7,200 shares in three weeks (shown below, left). On May 29th, 2024, Facebook[5] page Judon't uploaded a skit using a fan animation drawn by @rapyo_archive about Momoi translating some words from English to Mandarin that sound similar to the N-word. The video received more than 24,700 reactions and 3,000 shares in one week (shown below, right).
On June 4th, 2024, Twitter / X[6] user @IndoKnight219 uploaded a Bocchi The Rock! edit as if Hitori Gotoh was giggling after remembering the video. The post received more than 2,900 reposts and 19,900 likes in two days (shown below).
