About

Dovahhatty, also known as Dovah, is a Brazilian YouTuber and content creator who gained popularity thanks to his Unbiased History series. His videos have the purpose of retelling history via a plainly biased point of view, using memes and pop culture references. The historical figures in his videos are characterized by meme formats, such as Virgin vs. Chad, Wojak, Ideal GF, Spurdo SpΓ€rde, Le Happy Merchant, American Bear, Apu Apustaja and many others.

Online History

Dovahhatty created his YouTube channel[1] on August 24th, 2013 but did not upload anything on it until 2019. He mentioned 4chan's board /his/ to be his place of origin and has browsed it for an unknown amount of time before uploading his very first video[2] on May 23rd, 2019 on YouTube. His early videos covered the Trojan War and the Founding of Rome through the Fall of Rome, which concluded his Roman series. He would later upload a video on The Defenestrations of Prague[3] and start a Byzantium[4] series. Dovahhatty created his own Twitter account[5] on October 2019, and happily posted about having reached 100,000 subscribers[6] on his channel. The Unbiased History Wiki[7] links to a Reddit account[8] that might have belonged to him for years before he started his YouTube career. His most popular video is about the Five Good Emperors, uploaded on the 25th of December, 2019, having reached over 830,000 views and 25,000 likes in one year (shown below).

Style and Avatar

Dovahhatty's main style of presentation is being an (obviously biased) narrator to the historical events he presents, sometimes talking directly to his audience during the episodes. He refers to his viewers as plebs in reference to the Disdain For Plebs meme and his Patreon[9] donators as "Patreon Jews," which he often thanks for their support. He openly admitted being a romaboo and denied being a furry in his Q&A video.[10] He often welcomes his audience with an "Ave" and salutes with a "ciao ciao" (literally meaning "bye bye" in Italian) at the end of his videos. His avatar is a drawn shadowy figure with glowing red eyes wearing purple armor and a horned helmet with two red horns (shown below, left). It was revealed in his video about COPPA[11] that his avatar is based on a small action figure (shown below, right), that he temporarily switched to in the video itself to save time and effort in animating the drawn one.

At the end of his video on the Fall of Rome,[12] he depicts himself in the Chad meme format, as he's being a tourist visiting Rome and referencing the My Ancestor :) meme (shown below).

Dovahhatty seemingly dissociates himself from both the far-left and the far-right, claiming "I hate Nazis even more than I hate communists" in his "Will my channel survive? (COPPA, Dark Humor and More)[11] video, often taking shots at 4chan's board /pol/. He also collaborated with centurii-chan[13] on his Mad Emperors[14] video.

Personal Life

Dovahhatty has mentioned he is from SΓ£o Paulo and is of Italian heritage. He started working on his Unbiased History series while studying in college. He has claimed to love history and dark humor, which is something he displays in his videos. In the "Rome XX – An Eulogy to Rome (Updates, Behind The Scenes, and Thanks)"[15], he said that anything in his narration that sounded anti-semitic, misogynist, anti-German and anti-Christian were part of the biased point of view of the Romans in that time period, which can be confirmed as his narration bias changes when the Roman Empire adopts Christianity as their religion.

Discord Drama

A video uploaded on May 30th, 2020 by TM The ecofag named "Dovahhatty 101" showed him banning several of his Discord members for siding with a banned member, and blocking someone who criticized him on Twitter. The video received 19,000 views and over 560 likes in 8 months (shown below).

Malthius

A Dovahhatty-inspired channel named "Malthius"[16] started uploading videos that mirrored his Unbiased History series, with the most popular episode being about Justinian I, with 50,000 views and over 3,100 likes in 1 month (shown below).
