Nobody Is Born Cool refers to a memorable scene from an episode of American animated series The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy in which character Hoss Delgado reveals a photo of the only person "born cool". Starting in 2017, the four-panel screen capture of the scene has been used as an exploitable.

Origin

On June 24th, 2005, episode "Irwin Gets a Clue" of animated series The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy premiered on Cartoon Network.^[1] In one scene of the episode, character Hoss Delgado talks about his backstory while riding a car. He then speaks about the only person who was born cool, revealing a photograph of an old man in his car visor.

Look, the point I'm trying to make is nobody is born cool. Except, of course…

In Spring 2016, the screen capture of the scene gained popularity in the Spanish-speaking Facebook communities and on Memedroid. The earliest version of the meme available online was reposted by Twitter user @Riserback on April 23rd, 2016 (shown below, left).^[2]

On May 14th, 2016, Funnyjunk user gidmp posted the earliest known English version of the meme (shown below).^[3]

In the following years, the format saw moderate circulation on Reddit, with the setup sometimes changed to "nobody is born perfect". Examples of the meme appeared in /r/zootopia, ^[4] /r/PERSoNA ^[5] and other subreddits.

In March 2019, the format saw a surge in popularity following a popular post made by Reddit^[6] user TheFlashGod on March 14th which gained over 25,300 upvotes in three days (shown below, left). On March 13th, 2019, Redditor^[7] AvaTyler posted a version of the meme in which the third panel was edited to fix a continuity mistake in the scene, receiving over 53,300 upvotes in one day (shown below, right).
