About

I Wonder is a song released by musical artist Kanye West that has it's intro going viral on TikTok and YouTube. The intro, which samples the Labi Siffre song My Song, has been slowly gaining usage across the platform starting in 2022 with a wide range of content using it as the background song. Starting in 2023, the song primarily became used in hype remixes, showcasing people who are trying to do something flashy or otherwise preparing themselves for the future.

Origin

In 1972, the musical artist Labi Siffre released the song called My Song which was uploaded to TikTok in early 2020 as a part of introspective and sad posting. On December 28th, 2020, the YouTube channel Quality Compilation[1] uploaded a compilation of the biggest examples of My Song being used on the platform, while also showing the Kanye West sample'd version for his song I Wonder (shown below).

The song, which was originally released as part of Kanye's Graduation album in 2007, was uploaded to the TikTok platform in early 2022. It was later removed from the platform, with TikToks that use the song being unable to play the audio portion, as can be seen with one of the oldest examples of the song on the platform, the TikTok posted by @evasivemotorsports[2] on April 29th, 2022, showcasing how they modified a Honda car (shown below).

Spread

In the following years, the Kanye West version received more attention, being featured in various different TikToks and being remixed in different ways. On April 6th, 2022, the entire Kanye West version received a Nightcore sped-up remix, being uploaded to the YouTube channel Skzite[3] where it gained over 1.2 million views in 16 months (shown below).

In 2023 the song would receive a lot of attention with meme creators cutting it down to just the last part of the intro and Kanye's first verse. This shortened version would then be used in a variety of hype videos, in which something seems to be going down hill before reversing and going strong. This can be seen in the May 21st, 2023 upload to YouTube shorts by the channel @BestYT_Shorts[4] who used the sound combined with clips from Marvel's Spider-Man (shown below).
