About

"I Added the Green" refers to a series of jokes and parodies made about a tweet by Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Origin

On January 25th, 2018, during Sean Hannity's show, the host continually updating a story on how United States President Donald Trump had reportedly wanted to fire special counsel Robert Mueller over the Russia investigation in June 2017.

That night, Twitter [2] user @MEPFuller uploaded an edited version of the broadcast, cutting the show down to the moments of contradiction and changes of subject. They added the caption "
Sean Hannity: The New York Times is trying to distract you. They say Trump tried to fire Mueller, but our sources aren’t confirming that! / Sean Hannity, minutes later: Alright, yeah, maybe our sources confirm Trump wanted to fire Mueller. But so what? That’s his right. Anywho…" The video (shown below) received more than 32,000 retweets and 69,000 likes in less than 24 hours.

After the video went viral, Hannity responded to the reaction to the video by tweeting[3] a photoshopped image of himself with a green tint on his body. Hannity captioned the picture "Also liberal sheep think I should run wild with @nytimes anonymous sources and not confirm myself. Sure, I trust @nytimes that put this picture on the cover of their magazine (I added the green)." The post (shown below) received more than 790 retweets, 3,400 likes and 2,600 comments.
