Falling Cat

A picture taken of a cat as it was in the process of falling off a table. The photo itself is notable only for the strange face caused by the blur effect of the subject's sudden movement. This image is currently seeing use primarily as a reaction image on Reddit, as well as profile images across many other platforms.

History:

This image was posted in early June 2016 to Twitter by user @tokyo_sexwhale and was received with moderate enthusiasm^[1]. It entered the social mainstream in late August 2016 when user u/SeriesOfAdjectives posted it on the r/Funny subreddit^[2]. From there the image exploded in popularity, showing up on the usual reposting sites within hours. Presently the original source is unknown and being investigated.
