Cameron Boyce's Death refers to the epileptic seizure that killed Disney Channel actor Cameron Boyce in his sleep at the age of 20. Boyce was known for his roles in Disney's Descendants, Jessie, Grown Ups and Mirrors.

Background

On July 7th, 2019, A spokesperson on behalf of the Boyce Family confirmed the death of Cameron Boyce to ABC News^[1]. They stated:

"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron. He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother."

That day, TMZ^[2] reported that Boyce was found unresponsive by a roommate and pronounced dead at the scene.

Notable Developments

On July 7th, 2019, co-stars, friends and family of Boyce took to Twitter and Instagram in response to the tragedy. Adam Sandler^[3] tweeted a picture of Boyce and a message saying that he was "too young. Too Sweet. Too funny" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 812,100 likes and 140,100 retweets in two days. That same day, co-star Skai Jackson posted a photo of them on set together to Instagram^[4] saying,

"I don’t even know where to start… I am at a loss for words. I never thought in a million years I would be writing this. Cam, you were one of a kind. My heart will be forever broken. I am so happy that I got to spend almost everyday with you on set, you gave the best hugs. I wish I would have hugged you tighter when I saw you a couple of months ago. Thank you so much for being the big brother I never had… I am so distraught and I cannot stop crying! I love you so much… fly high 👼🏼 💔😢 Gods best Angel"

Actress Salma Hayek also posted to Instagram^[5] saying, "I had the privilege to play Cameron’s mother in #grownups 1 and 2 and we stayed in touch through the years He was spirited, talented, kind, generous, funny and a shining light" (shown below, left). The post received 841,200 likes in two days. That day many Twitter users began to notice disrespectful tweets coming from BTS stan accounts. Twitter user @OryannaGrey^[6] reposted a screenshot of a tweet by a BTS stan account (shown below, right).

On July 7th, after noticing disrespectful tweets, Skai Jackson pleaded over Instagram live for people to stop (shown below). YouTuber Louie Nelson posted a video to YouTube of various reactions to Boyce's death which has received over 836,600 views in two days. Other celebrities like China Mcclain posted videos to Instagram.^[7]

On July 9th, Twitter user @descendantsD3^[8] posted a fake screenshot to warn fans of the "sick" joke (shown below). They tweeted, "I'm sorry but Cameron Boyce is dead. Please let him rest in peace and respect his family and friends (imagine how hard this joke is for them)."

Thirst Charity Campaign

On July 11th, 2019, Adam Sandler^[10] started a Facebook fundraiser in which he asked for donations toward Thirst Project saying, "Cameron Boyce worked hard to help other people through great charitable organizations like Thirst Project^[9] & United Way of Greater Los Angeles. Let’s show our love and respect by continuing to support them in his name." The campaign raised over 1,700 dollars in a week.

Cameron Boyce Challenge

On July 10th, 2019, Twitter user @scottsternsorry posted an apology video for starting the Cameron Boyce Challenge in a video that has since been deleted (shown below). The challenge involves pretending to have a seizure and dying. Many of Boyce's fans have spoken out against these types of videos.

On July 14th, 2019, Instagram user boycefamily_ uploaded a compilation of the Cameron Boyce Challenge (shown below). The video speaks out against those participating in the challenge.
