Ending The Video When We Cringe refers to a genre of TikTok cringe content where two participants attempt to "out-cringe" each other by acting out various cringey viral videos and sound effects. The trend was started by TikToker @lewsharpy in late October 2022, and adopted by other creators in November 2022.

Origin

On October 27th, 2022, TikToker[1] @lewsharpy posted a video with a text overlay that read, "Not stopping the camera until I cringe myself." The video featured him saying a string of meme catchphrases including, Bruh and Gadem Deez Nuts. The video gathered over 4 million plays and 600,000 likes in nearly two weeks (seen below, left). The TikToker[2] went on to post several videos under the same format, with the third in the series gathering over 2 million plays and 400,000 likes in two weeks (seen below, right).

Between late October, and November 2022, TikToker @lewsharpy and TikToker @lewout posted over 10 videos as part of a series where they take turns trying to out-cringe each other. The most popular videos in the series were posted on October 29th, 2022, in a video[3] that gathered over 12 million plays and 2 million likes in ten days (seen below, left), and a video[4] posted on October 30th, that gathered over 12 million plays and 1.8 million likes in nine days (seen below, right).

The video format grew popular soon after the aforementioned uploads. On October 30th, TikToker[5] @jorrrjjjaaa posted a video of her and her friend trying to out-cringe each other. The post gathered over 400,000 plays and 70,000 likes in nearly ten days (seen below, left). Also on October 30th, TikToker[6] @carringtonxx posted a video participating in the trend, gathering over 600,000 plays and 100,000 likes in nearly ten days (seen below, right).

On October 31st, 2022, TikToker[7] @notlanarae posted a video following the format, gathering over 200,000 plays and 35,000 likes in nine days (seen below, left). On November 5th, TikToker[8] @richieejuice posted a video participating in the format as well, gathering over 900,000 plays and 200,000 likes in four days (seen below, right).
