Apple Music's 100 Best Album Parodies refers to memes and jokes about Apple Music's 2024 "100 Best Albums" list. The countdown from album number 100 began on May 13th, 2024, and continued through the month. As more classic albums were placed along the list, internet users began to speculate and joke about which albums may appear in the Top 10, with many people joking about how they feared Taylor Swift might be assigned to the number one spot. As the list neared the final rankings, some internet users also began to make parodies of the album rank cards, spoofing their favorite albums into the number one spot.
Origin
On May 13th, 2024, Apple Music began its 100 Best Albums Countdown,[1] ranking "Body Talk" by Robyn at number 100. The countdowns were posted to Apple's social media pages simultaneously, including Instagram[2] (shown below) and X (Twitter).
Spread
As the countdown to the Top 10 albums continued, internet users began to speculate about what artists may appear higher on the list. A particular focus was drawn to American pop star Taylor Swift, Apple Music's "Musician of the Year,"[7] with many expressing dread at the idea that she may rank higher than they'd like. On May 21st, Apple Music rated Swift's album 1989 as the 18th best album of all time.[9]
X[3][4] user @wowthatshiphop and music reviewer @theneedledrop both made posts about Swift's possible rank on May 17th and May 20th respectively (seen below).
Parodies of the what albums may rank in the Top 10 slots of Apple Music's list began to appear online in May as well, with X[5] user @iriptheslitt posting an edit of Arca's "KiCk i" on May 18th, 2024, and X[6] user @tlop444 posting an edit of Pi'erre Bourne's "THE LIFE OF PI'ERRE 4" on May 20th. The posts gathered over 6,000 and 19,000 likes respectively (seen below).
On May 21st, 2024, X[8] user @angeltrackpad posted a possible leaked list of Apple Music's 10 Best Albums, placing Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye in the Top 3. The validity of this list is unconfirmed (seen below).
