On YouTube, Apache commonly refers to the Danish singer Tommy Seebach's[1] 1976 rendition of the original composition by Jerry Lordan.
Origin
The music video--featuring Seebach and his band having a good time with a group of tribal-clothed babes--first came to the spotlight at the Fantasia Film Festival in 2006[2], when DJ XL5 dubbed Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up (watch on video gallery) over the original M/V footage.[3] The dub was a success and soon enough, remixes and dubbed renditions of Apache music video took on a life of its own on YouTube.
The Song
In popular culture, "Apache" is a well-known, often-covered instrumental track written by English songwriter Jerry Lordan.[4] Inspired by the 1954 western film Apache, his song has been numerously sampled by other musicians across generations, from The Shadows and Incredible Bongo Band to Sugarhill Gang and Sir Mix-A-Lot.
