I dunno… the controversy just feels like it's trying too hard, if that makes sense. Like people are desperately searching for some scapegoat where they can say "if we just get rid of these guys, games will be good again." I can't say I'm too invested it in it but I doubt it'll shape up to be another GamerGate. It'll probably drop from collective consciousness in a couple weeks as people try to find something else to blame. Maybe, I dunno, Vladimir Lenin himself? Now that'd be interesting.

It kind of reminds me of a possible explanation of why people believe certain conspiracy theories is that if there is a single person or group of people responsible for a problem and they are stopped, then things will return to normal. The alternative to this is that problems just happen just because and there is really no way to stop it through human means.

Interesting, never heard of that term until now but it was an interesting read. Although I was originally thinking in my previous comment about conspiracy theories along the lines of governments having some weather controlling machine that is causing all sorts of natural disasters.

like most things, the problems comes from a mix of systemic issues in the gaming industry, higher ups suffering from the dunning Kruger effect, short term planning and other stuff that can't be blame on one group or person.
Again i remind of the Alan moore quote about people scrapgoating and conspiracy theory

"The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theory, is that conspiracy theorists believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is actually chaotic. The truth is that it is not The Iluminati, or The Jewish Banking Conspiracy, or the Gray Alien Theory"
