Wait! Don't Unfollow! I'm a Girl! is a reaction image and series of image macros showing Chizuru Mizuharam from the anime series Kanojo, Okarishimasu in a bikini captioned, "Wait! Don't unfollow! I'm a girl!" The meme was originally posted to Reddit in 2020 and gained viral spread over the following years, becoming the subject of edits as an exploitable meme format.

Origin

On December 7th, 2020, an image macro depicting Chizuru Mizuharam looking distressed while in a bikini yelling, "Wait! Don't unfollow! I'm a girl!" was posted to /r/KanojoOkarishimasu,^[1] titled, "use this when you start losing followers," garnering over 1,800 upvotes in four years (shown below).

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following years and became the subject of edits. On February 15th, 2022, a version was posted to /r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns^[2] reading "Wait! Don't unfollow! I used to be a boy!" garnering overt 110 upvotes in two years. On May 4th, 2023, Tumblr^[3] user shadow-banned-the-hedgehog posted a version replacing "girl" with "top," garnering over 14,000 notes in a year (shown below).

On March 6th, 2024, Tumblr^[4] user theworsethingsgettheharderifight posted a version of the meme that gained over 14,000 notes in two months (shown below, left). On May 14th, X^[5] user @FemboyYt, aka Femboy Fishing, posted a version of the meme that gained over 3,600 likes in under a day (shown below, right).
