I'm reminded of the ancient Pharisees and how they were accused of the ancient equivalent: being needlessly pedantic and legalistic about the details of the law and making it a burden while simultaneously neglecting what the law was trying to teach about justice and compassion and mercy. There's a reason they got dunked on so much.
