Reality is women largely never wearing armour or being in direct combat.
Even then one would likely find woman wearing chain/leather more commonly than plate. The saga of the Saxons likely has tilted that heavily in favour of dark age armour because it's one of the few notable instances woman fought (to the shock and horror of the anglos) in known European history
