Pink Hair Mystery Woman refers to a clip from the Tailstube Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube series where a nameless human character with pink hair is shown in the background, assumedly from the upcoming video game Sonic Frontiers. The character's brief appearance inspired fan art and rule 34 depictions about the character along with speculation about her role in the franchise in late March 2022.

Origin

On March 24th, 2022, the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube^[1] channel uploaded the first episode of the TailsTube series, a talk show and livestream hosted by Tails meant to give further insight into Sonic lore. In the episode, Tails and Sonic give a lesson on their homeworld, describing where they're from and how the world works. Around the 2:05 mark, Tails explains how humans usually live in the bigger countries on their world then shows an image of several humans including a woman with pink hair (shown below). The video gained over 213,000 views in four days.

The mysterious woman's brief appearance inspired curiosity in viewers and fans of the series, who wondered what her role might be in the Sonic franchise and if she'll appear in Sonic Frontiers. On March 24th, 2022, Twitter^[2] user @OFlipgram tweeted at @IanFlynnBKC, an artist working on Frontiers, writing, "@IanFlynnBKC who is this woman bro??? #KnowingSmile maybe?" The hashtag "#KnowingSmile" refers to a trope by the artist, who regularly draws important characters with a "knowing smile" to tease the audience. The artist replied to the tweet with the hashtag (shown below).

The woman also inspired fan art. On the same day, Twitter^[3] user @TheNovika posted a drawing of the character, gaining over 2,200 likes in four days (shown below, left). On March 25th, Twitter^[4] user @Hadronus posted a 3D rendering of the character with a Sonic Frontiers logo, gaining over 9,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).

On March 26th, Twitter^[5] user @gamerknux5 posted a piece of fan art depicting the character, gaining over 400 likes in two days (shown below). On the same day, NintendoLife^[6] reported on Twitter's infatuation with the character.
