Miiverse Yeah! is the Miiverse's equivalent to a "Like" on the Miiverse discontinued social media platform launched by Nintendo in 2012 and shut down in 2017. In 2024, after X / Twitter removed the ability to view other people's Likes, some X users began replying to posts they would have liked with an image of the Miiverse "Yeah!" button as a way of making their "Likes" public.

Origin

The icon showing a smiling green figure and a plus sign next to text that reads "Yeah!" stems from a Nintendo social media platform called Miiverse, first launched in 2012. The "Yeah!" button was the site's equivalent of "liking" a post. Variations of the reaction included "Yeah…" "Yeah?!" and "Yeah ♥"^[1]

In June 2024, Elon Musk's X removed the ability to view other users's "Likes" tab. The move faced some pushback, with some X users joking about how they will start using the Miiverse "Yeah!" as a reaction image in the replies of posts they would have liked to publically "Like."

X^[2] user @DreamyWeegee was one of the first to propose the use of the Miiverse "Yeah!" on June 12th, 2024, gathering over 100,000 likes in two days (seen below).

Use of the Miiverse "Yeah!" image as a replacement for public likes spread soon after @DreamyWeegee's post, a phenomenon acknowledged by X^[3][4] users @onilsalvador and @ShadowPikPik, who gathered over 70,000 and 40,000 likes, respectively, in one day on posts made on June 13th, 2024 (seen below).
