Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love" is the first single off of Lady Gaga's upcoming sixth studio album. The music video and song were introduced in February 2020. The song's video inspired Twitter memes comparing Gaga's character in the video to a superhero or to Brooke Candy, the star of Grimes' music video for her 2012 song "Genesis."

Origin

On February 25th, Lady Gaga posted a photo of a billboard to Twitter[2] with the caption, "'STUPID LOVE' THE NEW SINGLE BY LADY GAGA OUT FRIDAY AT MIDNIGHT ET #LG6 (shown below). The tweet gained over 187,800 likes and 58,700 retweets in three days.

On February 25th, 2020, Twitter user @LGMonsterFacts shared a leaked screenshot from the music video with the caption "Lady Gaga is the first woman" to which Twitter user @filibert0w[3] replied "It feels … Reductive" and shared a screenshot from the Grimes' "Genesis video (shown below, left) The tweet garnered over 110 likes in three days. That same day, Twitter user @yvvesadlaurent[4] shared photos from both video's with the caption, "IS THAT YOU BROOKE CANDY???!!!!" (shown below, right). PopBuzz[1] also reported on the similarities.

On February 27th, 2020, Lady Gaga released the official music video to YouTube (shown below). The video stayed at the number one trending spot on YouTube that day and accumulated over three million views in a day.



That same day, Twitter user @gagamonster96[5] and @tomzohar[6] posted photoshopped screenshots of Lady Gaga running in the music video. The tweets gained over 4,000 likes and 2,2000 likes respectively in a day.
