This is something that requires a whole extra article to talk about, but it's a topic that needs discussing regardless, so I'll just do the Cliffnotes version.

1) The most important change that needs to happen is also incidentally the hardest, which is overturning the Citizens United Act, the bill that allows for corporations, LLCs, special interest groups, etc. to fundraise campaigns and lobby at a seemingly uncapped funds. Progressives and young democrats want this bill gone, but moderate dems and republicans do not, so any change that benefits the working class citizen (you and me) will always be up against the groups who funded the congressperson's campaign.

2) Occupy Democrats isn't what they used to be. The movement used to be led by Cenk Ugyur of TYT, a huge champion of removing the Citizens United Act, until they ousted him a couple years ago. So while they do praise the actions of progressives and denounce the actions of the alt-right, I don't know if they actually spend time campaigning for strong politicians who will support their goals, e.g. AOC going to Georgia to help raise awareness.
