And then I realized just how liberal(not even in a bad way, it was just a core part of the Water Tribe characters) season 1 of TLA was
-Katara wanting to be a waterbender, and the Northern Water Tribe not training any female waterbenders
-Sokka being sexist, including the multiple times he gets called out on it by Katara
-The entirety of the Kyoshi Warriors

The original TLA came out at a time where the worst we would get would be shipping wars
But with stuff like the Voltron fandom holding confidential information ransom that could have ruined the rest of the show, along with the general toxicity and actions of some parts of the Undertale and Steven Universe fandom(talking about attacks and harassment, like the needled cookie someone gave to the Undertale artist), especially with the added layer of the Voltron and Avatar fandoms being very similar

I'm terrified that the modern political and fandom climates are just going to cause flamewars and shitstorms, and this will end up as a blemish on what the original series once was

one thing i like about Sokka being sexist is that it has a grounded reason unlike most of what i've seen these days. The reason he thinks women cant do what men can is because of what his father told him about Sokka being the protector of the southern water tribe as the last male there, thus leading to him thinking that women aren't capable of protecting the village. Also when he first meets the Kyoshi Warriors he abandons his beliefs once they're shown to be false showing that Sokka isn't inherently sexist but rather is sexist because of what he has encountered and is intelligent enough to embrace new ideals when they are shown to be superior.

If the Show stays true to the core aspect of the canon universe, which is a deep introspective look into the philosophical nature of war and how it destroys the basic fundamental building blocks of society and why the preservation of balance and understanding and mercy to those different than you is essential to rebuilding, it should go down well. However, I fear that it will go down the route of LoK in which the basic tenant of the universe was cast out and the original characters were made into versions of themselves that did not adhere to how their characters grew in the original show.

In the end I predict that the same will happen to this version of the show and small yet very important differences will be made to better "fit" with today's politically correct and post modernist world view.

Very late comment since you posted this 7 months ago but you're goddamn right. I get this feeling that we'll probably have the same exact things happening as it did in the show (Sokka's Sexism and getting owned by it, Katara not being allowed to use waterbending for combat because she's a woman etc etc) and next thing you know, all the YouTubers will be complaining about Avatar "Going PC" or "Get woke go broke", completely forgetting about the old show and complaining that Netflix turned the show into some overly political garbage (when 90% of the show was overly political in the first place).

Yep
Given how KYM and /co/ are I'm not gonna follow the community on this
In fact given 2019 internet culture I'm not following this on reddit or tumblr either since you know it's going to be full of posts calling bigots/incels/nazis out every 5 minutes
