this reminds me of the college experiment where people were playing up Dihydrogen Monoxide as a bad thing and had a bunch of men and women with petitions go out and get signatures to ban it.
they got a staggering amount of signatures without actually telling a single lie about it, while using the same lines anti-smoking organizations use to scare the populace into not smoking.
the joke is that Dihydrogen Monoxide is the scientific lengthening of the contraction: H2O.
they got people to advocate banning water. the masses are not very privy to manipulation.
