"YES, BUT WHY?"

I remember when I was in grade school, my thesis statements were never long enough for my teachers' tastes, and they'd always tell me to "elaborate".
"You need to ELABORATE."
"I need you to ELABORATE."
And thus I developed a seething hatred of the word "elaborate".
