About

We'd All Like A Lot of Things…That Aren't Going To Happen is a quote said by Mrs Flood (portrayed by Anita Dobson), a character in the fourteenth series of the British sci-fi series Doctor Who. In the scene, Mrs Flood says the phrase after Cherry Sunday (portrayed by Angela Wynter), the grandmother of companion Ruby Sunday, asks for a cup of tea after Mrs Flood looks after her. Online, the catchphrase has been widely used in a series of image macros as well as captioned videos with moments from the show.

Origin

In the 2024 Doctor Who episode, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday", companion Ruby Sunday and her adopted mother Carla Sunday go to UNIT to help, whilst they're out, Carla asks Mrs Flood to look after Cherry.

After they leave, Cherry asks Mrs Flood to make her a cup of tea which leads her to say "Would you sweetheart? Well we'd all like a lot of things, that aren't going to happen".
