Miranda Cosgrove is an American actress best known for her role as the main character of the Nickelodeon television show iCarly. Additionally, she has had major roles in Drake and Josh and School of Rock. Online, she has been the subject of numerous humorous image macros.

History

Miranda Cosgrove was born May 14th, 1993 in Los Angeles, California, USA.^[1] She began her career at a young age doing commercials before landing her first film role as Summer Hathaway in 2003's School of Rock (shown below).

In 2004, she debuted as the character Megan Parker in Drake and Josh, the little sister of Drake and Josh (shown below, left). As Drake and Josh ended, Cosgrove began starring in iCarly, a Nickelodeon show about teenagers and the internet. This show ran for five years and is arguably Cosgrove's best-known role (shown below, right).

Cosgrove has also started a singing career and in 2010 released her debut album, Sparks Fly. Her song "About You Now" has gained over 25 million views on YouTube (shown below, left). Her song "Kissin U" gained over 10 million views (shown below, right).

Memes related to Cosgrove began appearing in the early 2010s. On July 25th, 2012,^[2] Buzzfeed compiled fan art and photoshops relating to Cosgrove taken from Tumblr (examples shown below).

Cosgrove continued to have memes made of her throughout the following decade. On February 1st, 2018, CollegeHumor^[3] compiled 15 recent image macros featuring Cosgrove (example shown below, left). On May 11th, 2018, Twitter user @lustedafter included a picture of Cosgrove in an Elon Musk/Grimes parody, gaining over 3,500 retweets and 18,000 likes (shown below, right). 9-year old internet celebrity Lil Tay briefly claimed her Instagram account was run by Cosgrove, though that has been proven false. Select All^[4] covered the endurance of Cosgrove memes on May 17th, 2018, noting that "It’s not problematic or mean -- nothing pointed or controversial ever erupts from it, though. There’s no mocking attitude toward the actress."
