On January 28th, 2021, CNN broadcast a story titled "Behind the Reddit-Driven Stock Market Frenzy" on television, in which they give more context on the Gamestop stock surge. At one point in the broadcast, /r/WallStreetBets is shown on the screen, along with a meme^[1] referencing the stock surge, next to CNN broadcaster Chris Cuomo. On that day, @tortieyt tweeted,^[2] "LMAO" and a screenshot from the newscast, garnering over 174,000 likes and 21,700 retweets in 4 days (shown below). This screenshot spread across social media through reposts over the next few days.^[7][8]

On January 29th, 2021, @_herck commented,^[4] "new exploitable just dropped" under @tortieyt's post along with a blank template of the meme offering a white space in place of the television, garnering over 3,900 likes and 230 retweets in 3 days.
